My first home: by Deniece

#1

The first home that I remember as a child, was in Taylor, Idaho.  It was a unique house.  The parents bedroom and ours (Lynne & I) was connected by a hallway that had closets on both ends.

The kitchen also was unique.  It had a built in picnic table and benches.  It was a wonderful play room.  One favorite game was to pretend we were airplanes with a jack in our mouth for the propeller.

One time Lynne swallowed hers, and couldn't breathe.  Mother picked her up and headed outside yelling for Dad.  He ran to the house, grabbed a hold of her feet, pulled her out of mother's arms, hanging her upside down, and pounded her on the back.  The jack flew out and she started breathing again.  We were forbidden thereafter, to put them in our mouth.  Dad's wisdom has always been amazing to me.  Then, and now.

This home in Taylor was a beautiful home, but very primitive by todays standards.  We did have electricity for lights, and COLD running water.   The kitchen stove had a water reservoir on the side that provided hot water for washing dishes, washing dirty clothes, and taking baths.  The tub was about the same size as a wading pool they play in outside today.  The difference being that our tub was metal and much deeper.  Lynne and I got to be first as we were the youngest ones.  Everybody took their turn in the same water, including Mom and Dad.  Remember to count your blessings every morning when you jump in the  shower with warm, running water.
