Edward Martin Handcart Company

I'm going to Martin's Cove for Youth Conference in July so I asked Grandma if we have any ancestors that went through. This is what she found: 1) Sarah Davis Treasure, daughter of William Treasure and Mary Davis, was born at WQ (Winter Quarters) 1862. Her parents, Wm & Mary, crossed the plains with baby Sarah. At the age of 17 Sarah married William Reese Davis. William Reese Davis died, leaving a 21 year widow and 3 children (Mary,Martha & Dan). William Bert Simmons, took MARY TAYLOR as a plural (or 2nd) wife, and had 7 children. Mary is our ancestor. Mary was a survivor of the Martin Handcart Co. Her family, which consisted of a husband, a father and a mother died on the trail. Wm. Bert Simmons, was one of the rescuers out searching for the handcart company. After William Bert and his 1st wife nursed Mary back to health William Bert married Mary, & she was a 2nd wife. 2) The other one surprisingly is Daniel Tyler. He was returning from a mission He was appointed to take charge of the Swiss-Italian mission. The German and French Missions were added soon afterward. Thus a blessing was fulfilled which was given him when he was hobbling on crutches -- that he should have the use of his limbs, travel abroad and preach the Gospel in four different languages. While on this mission he corresponded with Professor Karl G. Maeser and through this means he was converted to the church. He was gone two years and released 27 Nov. 1855 on account of ill health. He came back to the United States to Iowa City and continued to Salt Lake Valley with Captain Edward Martin's hand-cart company. He was counselor to the Captain and Chaplin of the Company. (They had served as officers in the Mormon Battalion together also, Daniel also served as Chaplin in the Battalion.) He left no record of the journey. He was going home due to illness and the journey was unbearable for all. I guess that is why he said nothing.
